LG DoublePlay Handset Usability: Research Lead
T-Mobile | Spring 2011
The LG DoublePlay was T-Mobile's first dual screen handset optimized for multitasking. This device provided unique challenges in guiding users to use the mini LCD screen in tandem with the larger screen. The research examined core tasks of the device including using the the mini LCD applications (specifically designed for the smaller screen), music, messaging, browsing, and social media.
RESULTS
- Identified 50 usability issues. Through continual communication with LG, we were able to address 40 by launch or with over-the-air updates.
- Refined interaction between the main LCD and small screen, improved discovery of features on the browser, and modified navigation of the music player application to align better with user behavior.
- The device received 4 out of 5 stars for "Ease of Use" and 4 out of 5 stars overall based on 73 reviews (T-Mobile.com).
ROLE
- UX Lead: Met with the product manager to determine project's goals, devised a research plan, created test documents, moderated participants, analyzed data, and authored the report with recommendations and findings.
